I was walking down a meadow lane
Just after an April rain
When I came across a patch of roses
That I'm sure had attracted noses
To inhale the sweet, fine fragrance
Created with such elegance.
They were pale yellow in their hue
And quietly beautiful, but still, were few.
Their sugary perfume wafted my way.
It would convince a demon to stay all day.
The flowers swayed gently before my face
And I rubbed my nose with their petals of lace.
But I felt sorry for them - all alone;
Just to rest silently as the warm sun shone.
So I looked around and took a shudder.
I pulled down my pants and gave them water.
There once was a dude from Fork
Whose brain was the size of a quark.
He told me a joke
And then he went "croak."
But anyway he was a dork.
I once met a person in May
Who fed on nothing but hay.
She fixed me a batch
So I took out a match
And cooked me a weirdo flambé.
There once was an old ugly witch
Whose forty gold teeth made her rich.
A man took her jaws.
I know this because
I found her dead body in a ditch.
I once met a boy named Keith
Who for Christmas gave me a wreath.
It smelled really bad
So then I got mad
And knocked out all of his teeth.
One day a jerk broke my thumb.
He said I was ugly and dumb.
I told him I'd pound him
So later I found him
And now when he smiles it's all gum.
I once met a girl named Eevy
Whose boyfriend's name is Stevie.
She thought it one night
That they should fight
Until her head busted the T. V.
In Little Rock a mister
Married a girl and kissed her.
They later divorced
So this question was forced:
"Are we still brother and sister?"
I'd like to go to the fair.
Get up and carry me there.
If you don't, I'll be hurt
And I'll shred thru your shirt
While I try and pull out your hair.
I once received in the mail
A loaf of bread that was stale.
It was sent by a bloke
Who had played his last joke
'Cause I kicked his fat, sorry tail.
Today I saw a mockingbird
Singing in the trees.
Her song added a sweetness
To the gentle autumn breeze.
Occasionally she would jump
From one limb to another.
It came upon a small brown nest,
And it showed to be a mother.
Mother bird cheered the babes
With her carefree mood.
She brought the young onto a branch.
Mom sat in line with her brood.
They sang out in chorus
A song a bird might do.
So sang out my Magnum,
And BANG! mocking bird stew!
I was on a raft made from rose petals
And I lay snug and warm as I stared
At the million star-dotted sky and spectated
Comets flow past each other and moons circling
Soft-shaded spheres of planets in the Blackness.
And the raft was moving and drifting
Smoothly down a dark vast river which was
Always streamed straight. So I let the
Movement of the crystal water carry
Me toward any point at the end of it.
Then woke up beside me a lady of
Physical wealth. She sat up without a word
And her hairs of gold brushed her and
Fell upon her to be close to her as
Even heaven had longed for to be, and she
Blinked her jeweled brown eyes and moved
Her delicate angel face toward my
Chest and returned to her peace. With this
In security I went for an everlasting moment
With the other side of me, and love and affection
Pierced our hearts and tied us together so that
We would know love forever.
Cobblestone street
And houses to match.
Clomping his feet
Past rooftops of thatch.
Pale and cold shops,
Tall and imposing.
He cautiously stops
As if he is dozing.
Air filled with spice,
Turm'ric, and cumin.
Steam upon rice:
Airs superhuman
But no, he must not
Further engage.
His own family's pot
Hosts basil and sage.
He looks in his hands.
His feet realign.
"My mother demands
This parcel of thyme."
Bright and within
Among the tagines,
Bronze and smooth skin:
A boy in his teens.
His smile white and bold.
His hair black and curled.
His eyes green and gold.
His fingers unfurled.
He approaches a bit
And lifts for a bite;
An offer of Rose
Turkish delight.
"I am Italian
Really, I shouldn't."
He barely resists.
Really, he couldn't.
Sweet on his tongue.
Savor inhaled.
He's now among
Flavors upscaled.
The boy doesn't speak
But licks his own fingers.
Knees growing weak,
The visitor lingers.
Was there a wink
In that gold eye?
Or was this given
To all passers-by?
Shyly unwrapping
The herbs, he exposes
Crispy thyme snapping
The air in their noses.
He sniffs and he grins
And beams at his guest.
He touches and yearns
To offer his best.
Grabbed by the wrist
And pulled fast inside,
The guest can't resist
And raises his stride.
The boys hand-in-hand;
Their hearts pound and quake.
The herbs are quite bland
But their tongues are awake.
Blending thyme feather
With fragrant gilt powder;
Tasting together,
Their voices seem louder.
A flinch of their chins
And their lips then connect.
A melding of skins
They didn't expect.
Passionate sweat.
Bodies move closer.
Humble, and yet,
A flavor composer.
Too far in backgrounds,
Too close in their gender,
Fire surrounds
Love and spice splendor.
Seasons and scents
Fuse and combine.
The couple invents
Fragrance devine.
Conflicting traditions;
Their flavors contrasting.
Silent admissions;
Peace everlasting.
The mix of aromas
Stir lungs to inflate.
They fly from their comas,
Fly free to create!
"I can't smell or clutch
Piquancy or zest."
The errand boy's much
Chagrin did attest.
Their cultures entwined
Like oregano-curry,
Familiar combined
Leaves borderlines blurry.
Says the bronze host,
"The only thing real
And what I want most
Is the twinkling I feel."
A recipe made
By tasting a sample.
Why can't we just love?
No feast is more ample.
"Aliens don't exist,"
Said my teacher tapping her toes.
She was only about to realize
Just how much she knows.
Thrown out into the hallway,
I ran and hid for cover,
For only I was conscious of
What class would soon rule over.
The beings brought a fate so horrid,
Too sinister to withstand.
They poured out lava o'er the earth
To reinforce demand.
People tried to flee from death,
But for them there was no hope;
For fire now engulfed the world
With which life could never cope.
A spaceship from the heavens
Then descended into town.
Landing gear extended
And the giant craft was down.
The colossal ship revealed a hatch
That opened not too wide;
And a gruesome fiend with tentacles
Emerged from the inside.
It readied an atomic phaser
And aimed it at the ground.
Just as soon as it pulled the trigger,
There was mucus all around.
The creature called his friends to lunch
But since they had forgot,
I ran and grabbed the phaser
As they feasted on the snot.
I shot them down one by one
Until there were no more;
But then an army of the monsters
Spilled out the spaceship door.
I set the weapon's dials
On "GET 'EM REALLY GOOD."
I took my aim and fired once;
I killed them where they stood.
I decided I would steal the ship
As desire for vengeance grew;
So I climbed up in the vessel
And into space I flew.
Soon I found the distant body
And pausing as I came near,
I fired two death torpedoes
Into the stratosphere.
As I turned the craft around
To escape the lethal blast,
I ceased and stared ahead of me
While a vicious ray roared past.
I activated ev'ry switch
On the beat-up dash.
I fin'ly got lost enough
To offer my foes cash.
They came aboard my stolen ship
To receive their prize.
They took the loot and turned to leave,
But that act proved unwise.
I armed myself with a ray,
Found the leader's head.
Then in a sec a "ZAP" ensued
And the evil toad was dead.
I did not wait for the rest
To even leave the room;
I aimed at them, pulled the trigger,
And brought them to their doom.
I sat down at the console
And pulling one more lever,
I blew their craft to kingdom come
To give me peace forever.
I soared to Earth like a flash
Since sweet revenge was mine.
I returned and found life restored;
Everything was just fine.
I found my teacher and she complied
That I was right before.
Just goes to show that in your life
Don't ever doubt the score.
Because I saved the planet
They offered me a robe.
They crowned my head and honored me;
I was emp'ror of the globe.
They made me rich with law and gold;
I made them bow at my whim.
Alas, a spaceship picked me up
For I'm really one of them.
